Finally, My-Tuts has returned to the internet

Can you smell… what the rock… is cooking?

Disclaimer: I had nothing to do with the development of this site. Only the original back in 2006

Ok Ok, enough WWE copyrighted lines for today. But around 5 months ago I gave the My-Tuts domain away to a friend of mine, Nick Berlette to develop. The idea was to stay close to the original My-Tuts and the ‘idea’ around it all and it seems to have done an alright job of doing that.

I personally don’t like the layout (and have told him that from the start), but I’m being told a new layout is already underway. The current layout is actually a rejected layout that was whipped up as an idea before I went ahead and did my own. It wouldn’t be too bad if they re-did the sidebar, removed the horizontal bar below the top navigation and spiced it up a little I don’t think.

However the tagging system works well, and the forums have been improved somewhat over what was originally offered at My-Tuts. And the illustration on the labs page shows exactly why I love to use Richard Shilling for any illustrations. The guide is severely lacking, but Nick knows all this… so I’ll stop pointing things out and let you guys take a look :)

Go look at My-Tuts and judge it accordingly here

Comments:

  1. It doesn’t seem the same as it used to be… :(

  2. It was the idea, but I’d agree – it’s not the same. Nick and his team are trying to improve that though.

  3. I personaly am not impressed with it. I can see some JavaScript code sticking out on the sidebar, also I agree with your opinion on the sidebar/layout in general. Hopefully the guys are going to improve it though so I won’t pass judgement right away.

But on a light note it is nice to see that My-Tuts is finally back up :)

  4. I think the blame may lie with the team. I think you’ll agree Mat when we originally did My-Tuts everyone was completely and utterly siked to see it up and running. This time around it seems to be ‘oh we’ve got it out the door, phew!’ and that’s reflected through small things like the guide being short/missing and the very tiny blog entry put up to announce the launch.

  5. Aside from the JS errors, there are mysql errors too!

  6. Yeah we know Aston – seems Nick Berlette is about as reliable as English weather. It’s a shame that it didn’t even last as long as the original site.

Maybe I’ll just have to go and do it myself.
