What happened? Who shot you? Give us randomness!

Well not quite shot in the side of the face, but pretty close…

As I said in a previous post – I went to the Queens Medical Center on Tuesday for an operation, which was on my ear. I actually had Mastoid Surgery to “explore” the area and a lovely (what I thought was little) Cholesteatoma. For those of you not bothering to click the link – a Cholesteatoma is a “disease” or presence in the ear that causes chronic ear infections, erodes bones, removes hearing (gradually) and can eventually go onto humping the brain slowly into submission.

I don’t know the *full* details of my operation and how it went as the doctors/surgeons decided it was best to tell me what happened whilst I was under aesthetic and I could barely keep my eyes open – so I didn’t take any of it in. Most of what I know is what I remember from glimpses of consciousness and what I’ve heard from my girlfriend Vicky who was with me at the time. But apparently the Cholesteatoma grew into the bones behind my ear, and one or two had to be removed.

Now – what was this I said about a shot in the face? Well trust me, that’s how it feels… specially if you make the mistake of turning over in your sleep and leaning on it. After the first night of bleeding and changing 10 pieces of cotton wool in 12 hours, filling my pillow with blood and three nights of no sleep I went to my local doctor and got some stronger medication – and boy did it work!

Who would have thought the difference between 400mg and 600mg would help me sleep so much? Went to bed at 12am and got up at 10am – best night sleep I’ve had in ages. So whilst I’m in this great mood of mine today I thought I’d post and update you people (what – five people still read this blog? ten? ok… eleven) on what is happening.

Anyways, with loss of hearing in my left ear, and loss of taste in the left side of my mouth (did anyone guess it was my left ear yet?) all should be fine soon. My hearing will come back, stitches will be removed, my taste will come back and chocolate will taste like chocolate once again…

Now I’ve got two weeks off work/college (although I doubt I’ll stay away from work for much longer) and I’m bored like a monkey with no bananas or Gary Glitter with no Thai wife’s..

Lots of really random things from here on:

  • Apparently Dinosaurs had appetite for grass, of course they did – who else would have mown the lawn?
  • The last three years in the premiership against Newcastle: 5-0, 4-0 and today 3-0. Maybe Newcastle will eventually get a draw against us 3 years from now :)
  • Newsvine is coming, sounds like we’ve finally got people with a passion for giving us the news, instead of giving us with what we see on our TVs
  • Anyone else find Google Analytics a bit slow? One update a day… I’ll get used to it
  • And all our base belong to Google
  • Go out, smash an iPod, record a crappy video and then go join me and Stu in complaining about its absolute sh*ttyness
  • Lynda.com, possibly the best video tutorials on the net, but they never update… ever
  • Want to learn Perl?
  • Are you as addicted to Sodukus as I am?
  • Noticed the little amount of Twodded tutorials too? Don’t worry there has been words said… and it’ll change – even if I have to sacrifice Twodded’s next version development time to write tutorials
  • There’s something reaaaaal big happening for my end of year project – don’t worry, you’ll want to use it ;)

  1. Its a great service, they just need faster servers (who would have thought i’d be saying that about Google!?!)

Alot of big companies are implementing it, so I think that might be the reason…

  2. Very true :) I converted over from Mint myself… Wanted a complete statistics package instead of something that relies on others making extensions to give the statistics that should really come with the package by default..

  3. Sorry to hear about you being in so much pain. just having a good laugh at Stu having ago at the ‘skinny gimp’ on smashmyipod.com :P

  4. Just added some songs i’ve been favouring lately to the end of the post :) Enjoy…

  5. Well hope you recover from your op soon.

Google Analytics probably didnt expect that many interests in the service, i think they’ve closed off registrations for a while. Also still deciding if i should use it.

  6. yea, and the fact that its free makes more and more people want to use it, saving hundreds.

  7. haha, it was too much fun matt :p

Some interesting links, i dont think newcastle will be playing you in 3 years time though jay, not if they keep that grumpy scottish git in charge! He stole the glory days from Liverpool!

a couple more songs for you entertainment/hyperness:
Happy Hardcore Anthems – 99 red balloons (remix)
Mint Royale – Singing In The Rain (remix)

  8. Well first of all, I hope you can be backup soon with a good left ear so you can rock at those Deep Beats, and that your taste comes back :) You never know when you need it again :))))

That smashmystuff thing is just hilarious, Stu you rock!!!

    Back to work now ;)

  9. Sorry to be the one here with the bad news, but the validators seem to hate you!

It seems that there is one string in the XHTML output that seems to go against the rules I could not figure out why, but you can always click your link to find out more!

Also, for some reason, your CSS is invalid off the bat, because it doesn’t show any errors on the validator, its just…invalid?

Lastly, your link to Jarkoff seems to be not found on his site, but it redirects you to the 404 page so its notthe worst thing!

anyways…I already said I like the blog, and I gots to get back to work! cya!

    du
