Chelsea 3 Nottingham Forest 0

Chelsea 3 Forest 0

Last Sunday afternoon was one of those moments in my life that I’ll always remember. After 8-9 years of supporting Chelsea instead of my hometown team of Nottingham Forest – not only did I get to see my first match at Stamford Bridge, but I got to see Chelsea beat that very hometown team that everyone told me I should have been supporting all those years.

I was told to expect everything from Nottingham Forest’s away fans to ‘drown out our librarians’ to a complete thrashing by the away team. What I saw however was 90-92 minutes of complete and utter magic. In the first half alone Chelsea had 81% possession, 11 shots in the first 20 minutes without a single reply and three goals – including a stunning free kick from our top scorer Didier Drogba.

For every chant that the Forest fans shouted out at the top of their lungs there was a louder chant coming back from the opposing Chelsea fans. I’ll always remember Nottingham Forest fans getting through a single line of ’stand up – for Nottingham’ out and beginning to start the second when two stands of Chelsea fans immediately rose up to simultaneously shout over the top of that chant.

“Stand up – for the champions! Stand up – for the champions! Stand up – for the champions!

Thirty six thousand people all standing and joining in to show their love for the club, thirty six thousand people at that moment where giving their voices, passion and lives all to Chelsea Football Club. It’s not something you’ll ever get from going to a pub, and it’s certainly something you’ll never replicate by watching it on television. It’s truly a unique experience.

Edit: I have closed off the comments for this post so no new comments may be made. I’m tired of the Nottingham teen gang culture trying to force me into changing the opinions expressed in my post, and I’m tired of reading comments that read like they where posted by people determined to prove just how bad their grasp of the English language is.

    36,000 fans? that’s nothing. 59,000 fans at arsenal standing up =D ( 1,000 other away fans )

Now that’s what you call an atmosphere! lol

Anyway, glad you finally got to see Chelsea play.

  2. I’d imagine it’d be mostly the same though with what I hear – very poor transport links and a much bigger exit time ;)

  3. That sounds awesome! Oh what I’d give to watch Chelsea play and be in that atmosphere at one of their games.

    Oh fortunate you.

  4. wot u sed bout the singing was boll*ks i was also there supporting the real team and the chelsea fans did not sing louder than the forest fans

  5. The Nottingham population thanks you for your representation.

  6. I take back my previous comment and terrible spelling and apologise for my rudeness on your blog. I would like to state that Forest fans are actually great people just like the rest of Nottingham folk and should not be represented by my ridiculous attitude shown previously on your blog.

  7. What A Lie.
I was there with Nottingham Forest and i was singing my heart out. Chelsea sang twice and both times forest out shouted them. Supported by 10 bob millionaires. That’s why you don’t sing. I have it on tape too. That prooves you wrong.
    Don’t Lie.
