1. Old Spice: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like

Old Spice is typically a brand most men (at least here in the UK) see as an ‘older men’ brand. Something you smell on your Dad or Granddad but have never thought about putting on yourself. This is why I was surprised to find the utter brilliance of an ad entitled “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” on YouTube, the latest in advertisements advertising the re-positioning in market of the Old Spice brand. Is this probably the greatest advertising campaign for deodorant out there today? Judge for yourself:

There are several things brilliant about this advert:

    • The excellent tag line added to the description: “We’re not saying this body wash will make your man smell into a romantic millionaire jet fighter pilot, but we are insinuating it.”
    • If you’re a woman, you’ll now look at your boyfriend and think “why are you not more manly you woman scented body washer?”
    • He has a boat, but he was just in the shower a moment ago
    • He has tickets to your favourite thing you want to go see
    • They turn to diamonds
    • He’s on a horse

As an added benefit, they also have Men focused advertisements which encourage Men to switch things up with their deodorants. Here’s “Different Scents for Different Gents” which covers this very well.

Edit: Seems Old Spice have gone ahead and done it again with their B.O. Blocker range of ads. Here’s a sample from those (also found on their YouTube channel) below:

  2. Truly inspiring Adidas advertisement: Never lost heart

adidas never lost heart cropped Truly inspiring Adidas advertisement: Never lost heart
(Click here to view the full sized image)

The advert reads “14 stitches, neck operation, fractured shoulder, haematoma to right arm, appendicitis, lacerated kidney, torn abducter muscle, knee ligament damage… never lost heart. Impossible is nothing”.

It is based on the English rugby fly-half Jonny Wilkinson who kicked the winning field goal for our world cup win in 2003. And his determination to come back against a mass list of injuries.

Jonny Wilkinson recently played again for the first time for England after 1,169 days of time out from injuries in the 2007 Six Nations Championship game against Scotland on February 3, 2007. He scored 27 points in that game (a record in the Calcutta Cup) and was awarded Man of the Match.

    Truly inspiring.

  3. Ad Systems – Which do you know of?

I’m doing a project for college which includes finding a multitude of web advertising providers. So I thought i’d put a post up to see which advertising providers you guys know of, and which you recommend etc.

I already know of Google Adsense, Revenue Science and Yahoo’s.. (though i’m not sure what Yahoo’s system is called)

So guys and gals, post the advertising systems you know of! Preferrably they need to be easy to integrate, not limited to certain countries (A few limit themselves to just America..) and if they are available to only a certain age range, please post that too :)
