Job openings, full-time or part-time
It’s that time of year again! Business is bursting at the seams and we’re looking for a new team member or two to come in either part-time or full-time (depending on your preference) to join us going forward into the future.
We work with Linux, Apache, PHP 5 and mySQL 5 technologies; deploying Wordpress, Expression Engine, Magento or Code Igniter applications where necessary to meet our client’s needs and we’re looking for someone to join our team as a developer. Note: you don’t have to know all of these to apply, so don’t be shy.
Qualities we’re looking for:
- Good sense of humour
- Good English, at the very least
- Good work ethic
- Ability to handle multiple jobs at the same time
- Able to work to tight deadlines, and deliver on those they themselves set out
- Ability to work within a development structure that is set out for each type of job
Requirements of the positions(s):
- Take part in our daily banter in our staff campfire
- Ability to use Basecamp, for project management
- Specialist experience with Magento, Expression Engine, Wordpress or Code Igniter
- Available part-time, or full-time
If you’re interested send an e-mail with your rates (hourly, or monthly), location, availability, why you want to work for us and experience to <removed>. Make sure the subject contains the words ‘Job opening’ in it somewhere in there.

Wanted: UK WordPress developer, UK Front-end developer

Before frustrated subscribers ask – yes, they’ll be a dedicated Rolled.at blog for this stuff eventually. I figured I’d post it up here as I’ve always received replies and better people as a result of posting here rather than on job boards.
I’m looking to bring a Wordpress developer and a Front-end developer for the team. We have a constant stream of Wordpress development and are looking to work with someone based in the UK. He or she must have:
- A sense of humour, and a love for Wordpress
- A love for a good sausage roll (the food – someone explained to me the other day it’s a very bizarre sexual position, but let’s not get into that now)
- Inside and out knowledge of the Wordpress template system
- A knowledge of too many plug-ins to count
- Ability to search or even build a plug-in to suit a specific need
- Ability to solve problems rather than create them
- Set pricing on a job-by-job basis, or a monthly fee to keep you on full-time
- Ability to manage and meet several deadlines. Perfect knowledge of English (I’m looking for UK based people here) and someone who can communicate with clients via IM or e-mail very well.
For the front-end developer position I’m looking for:
- A sense of humour, and a love for CSS/XHTML
- Ability to create XHTML Strict code in any situation, without falling back to Transitional
- Ability to produce hack-less CSS compatible with IE6, FireFox 1-2, Safari and Opera
- Ability to go further back in the browser time-machine if neccesary
- Ability to re-write existing terrible ‘want to slap the person who did it, table based’ code into ‘nice and pretty’ mark-up
- Ability to manage and meet several deadlines. Perfect knowledge of English (I’m looking for UK based people here) and someone who can communicate with clients via IM or e-mail very well.
If I fail to receive a application by Monday-Wednesday (depending on when I have time), I will post it around several job boards instead. Applicants should format their e-mails to me as such:
- Hi, I’m -x- from -x- and I love Sausage Rolls.
- Here is why you should hire me: -bullet pointed list-
- Here is my rough set per-job pricing and/or my monthly/weekly hiring fee should you want to choose between the two
- Here’s what I can bring to Rolled which no-one else can
- I love you man! -x- (Ok this one is optional)
Looking forward to seeing what I get in my inbox Monday morning.

A quick note on the CV
Out of the past 20-30 designers I’ve received CV’s from only one has been designed well enough for me to get a good impression of the designer, and it wasn’t created in Word. It was two pages and contained links to his recent work, some thumbnails and was fully branded.
It didn’t contain: his education background as far back as when he attended Nursery, his grades breakdown and ten pages of reading material padded out with lots of stretched truth to do with what they did at their last job. Example:
McDonalds – Senior Beef technician
Lead a team of three people processing and preparing beef for use in gourmet food ate by thousands daily. Designed a unique technique of packaging that is used for top customers to this day.Translation
Was in a team of four saying nothing, doing nothing but unpacking pre-shaped burger meat and passing it down the queue. Figured that spitting just underneath the cheese in annoying customers burgers before packing them could never be found, and that tip is now passed down through remaining staff to new staff to this day.Essentially:

Stop blabbing on, don’t send 100 URL’s with no explanation but send four or five latest pieces of work with explanations for each. Realistically I don’t have ten minutes for each applicant, so if your e-mail or application contains more than a minute or two of reading then it’s not going to get read. -
Rolled.at looking to expand once again
I’m gearing up the start of a recruitment drive for Rolled.at where there are a mass amount of opportunities for both starting and established developers. We work primarily in PHP/mySQL but are starting to see requests for ASP.NET, C++/C#, Python and Ruby on Rails. We are also in need of web designers.
The prices we charge depend on the people quoting for the particular job and we require everyone to have a instant messaging contact address for initial enquiries. Whether you charge very little or a lot – we are interested in speaking to you about opportunities Rolled.at can offer.
I can’t stress enough at this point that agencies should not bother applying and that we are only looking for English speaking people in the US/Canada, Great Britain, Europe or Australia.
Rolled.at isn’t a tied down contract and you are free to work for yourself on any other projects that may come along. We require non-disclosure agreements for all projects during the development/design process and expect freelancers to be able to self-manage the projects given to them to an extent.
We are looking for people with any of the following
- Experienced PHP developers for large jobs, and young developers looking to become established by doing smaller jobs and working their way up
- Deep CSS/XHTML knowledge, with the ability to code PSD’s or PNG’s into XHTML Strict and CSS valid layouts
- Experience with vBulletin or Invision Power Board, modding or skinning
- WordPress, Expression Engine or Movable Type experience
- Established web designers
- People with experience in ASP.NET, C++, C# or Ruby
- People with experience with frameworks such as CakePHP, Code Igniter or RailsIf you have any of these qualities and are interested in being handed work on a freelance basis – feel free to send an e-mail over to me@jhuskisson.com with some details about yourself and what it is you can do – and your availability for any work.

CSS/XHTML coder looking for regular work?
Notice: Rolled.at have now found our XHTML/CSS developers and offer a brilliant slicing service to all our customers. If you’re interested in getting a design developed into XHTML/CSS, then feel free to send me an e-mail at me@jhuskisson.com :)
Original post below:
2 Comments »I’m looking for a CSS/XHTML coder/company that can regularly provide me with a slicing and coding service with a quick turnaround for jobs. The reason being that a few of the new designers I will be using don’t CSS/XHTML code their layouts after designing and I have no time to do it myself.
I’m not looking to pay silly prices, under $50-100 a layout/page and flexibility above anything else (most jobs are more than one page). You must be able to code to standards (transitional/strict) and you must be able to make the table-less layout compatible with IE6/IE7, Firefox, Opera and Safari.
All work won’t be usable in a portfolio as it is work for my company (did I just let that slip?) and not on a direct basis. But CV entry/reference/offline portfolio entries I don’t have a problem with.

Any PHP freelancers out there?
I am currently no longer looking for PHP freelancers for my company. If you would still like to apply feel free to get in touch and if you’d like freelance PHP work doing also feel free to get in touch.
The full post before edit, for archives sake:
No Comments »Simply put I’m getting daily job requests at the moment and I’m unable to handle them all. So I’m looking for a PHP freelancer to which I can pass on jobs to when I don’t have time to do them.
If your interested please use my contact form or add me on any of the contact methods listed at the bottom of the contact page.
Be sure to send:
- Your level of experience
- What your happy dealing with (large jobs, small jobs, wordpress, IPB, vB, mod_rewrite, css, xhtml etc.)
- How often you are available
- Typical rates (hourly, or per project based with examples)
