1. What happened? Who shot you? Give us randomness!

Well not quite shot in the side of the face, but pretty close…

As I said in a previous post – I went to the Queens Medical Center on Tuesday for an operation, which was on my ear. I actually had Mastoid Surgery to “explore” the area and a lovely (what I thought was little) Cholesteatoma. For those of you not bothering to click the link – a Cholesteatoma is a “disease” or presence in the ear that causes chronic ear infections, erodes bones, removes hearing (gradually) and can eventually go onto humping the brain slowly into submission.

I don’t know the *full* details of my operation and how it went as the doctors/surgeons decided it was best to tell me what happened whilst I was under aesthetic and I could barely keep my eyes open – so I didn’t take any of it in. Most of what I know is what I remember from glimpses of consciousness and what I’ve heard from my girlfriend Vicky who was with me at the time. But apparently the Cholesteatoma grew into the bones behind my ear, and one or two had to be removed.

Now – what was this I said about a shot in the face? Well trust me, that’s how it feels… specially if you make the mistake of turning over in your sleep and leaning on it. After the first night of bleeding and changing 10 pieces of cotton wool in 12 hours, filling my pillow with blood and three nights of no sleep I went to my local doctor and got some stronger medication – and boy did it work!

Who would have thought the difference between 400mg and 600mg would help me sleep so much? Went to bed at 12am and got up at 10am – best night sleep I’ve had in ages. So whilst I’m in this great mood of mine today I thought I’d post and update you people (what – five people still read this blog? ten? ok… eleven) on what is happening.

Anyways, with loss of hearing in my left ear, and loss of taste in the left side of my mouth (did anyone guess it was my left ear yet?) all should be fine soon. My hearing will come back, stitches will be removed, my taste will come back and chocolate will taste like chocolate once again…

Now I’ve got two weeks off work/college (although I doubt I’ll stay away from work for much longer) and I’m bored like a monkey with no bananas or Gary Glitter with no Thai wife’s..

Lots of really random things from here on:
